Letter from the President,
Diane Kent
November, 2005
The OHA is involved in many areas, but perhaps the most rewarding and enjoyable, is the promotion of herbal medicine through education. Having attended the seminar given by Chanchal Cabrera, I find myself inspired by the wealth of information that we received, and delighted by the number of people who were willing to brave the elements for this event. A sincere thank you to Danette Steele who arranged this for us, and I look forward to helping the OHA promote many more events of this calibre, both for our professional and general membership.
Another thank you goes Sheila Waller-Kellen for organizing our appearance on the TVO pledge drive, and to the volunteers who showed up to help answer phones. We had a fun evening, and gained some invaluable television exposure for the OHA. For all of you who missed your opportunity to be on television, we will certainly try to do this again next year.

The OHA participates in a lot of fairs and events; we put on seminars and herb walks; our professional members offer a huge variety of courses and workshops; and we would like to ask your advice more often on the variety of planned OHA activities and new ideas. To make sure you don’t miss anything, we are in the process of updating our contact information for members. If you haven’t heard from us, I’d like to remind you to send your email address to info@herbalists.on.ca, with the subject line of ‘Contact’, or call us at 1-877-OHA-HERB (642-4372). This information will be kept solely for the confidential use of the association.
By the time you receive this issue of your Journal, we will be in the middle of winter. The holiday season is behind us, and your garden is sound asleep. Now is a time of planning and preparation. This is when we consider that extra flower bed, or spend hours with those exciting seed catalogues. Our gardens and balconies blossom in the imagination. This is also a time of planning and preparation for the OHA. An enormous number of hours have already gone into making sure that herbal medicine can continue to thrive in Ontario. We are designing new borders, and the seeds that we choose now, will colour the future. The OHA is growing and evolving, and every member is an important part of this process. If you have any thoughts, ideas, or simply comments about the direction you would like us to take, please feel free to contact me at any time.
Let us build a flourishing association together,
Diane Kent
